August might be my least favorite month of the year. You shower. You sweat. You blow dry your hair. You sweat. You put on clothes. You sweat.
My best friend Taylor and I went out Friday night to Mi Cocina and as we were walking to grab a drink, we just looked at each other and said, “Is my lipstick melting?” That’s kind of how you feel in Dallas all day long…..
In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t wear dresses a lot. In theory, I’m the girliest girl ever. In wardrobe, not so much. I’d rather live in leather leggings and booties, but I live in the wrong city for that. For August, I’m having to pull out the sundresses, because when you put anything on your legs you feel like you are frying.
There are three items you need to “edge” up a dress.
1. The Top Knot.
By top knot, I do not mean the ballet bun. See here. The top knot always looks best when you spend 5 seconds on it. Grab the hair starting at your hair line, grab the back section of your hair, twist both together [literally like you are squeezing play-doh] and throw in a hair band. This keeps you cool, and isn’t as cliche as curls with a dress. For all you girls who also ask how I never wash my hair, this is a great tool for you to use a few days in a row to hide dirty hair!
2. Spiked Jewels.
I wouldn’t normally pair pearls or a really dainty necklace with a sundress. Add something with a spike. Dannijo is my favorite, but you can definitely get a less expensive version here.
3. Lace Up Sandals.
Flat sandals might also be your go-to thought with a sundress, but I can’t stop craving lace up sandals. The ones I’m wearing are from Shop Riff Raff and I can’t stop wearing them. They elongate your legs, and this shortie needs all the help she can get.
