Engagement Party

I’m going to be really cliché and say our engagement party in February was one of the best days of our lives. But our engagement party was anything but typical.
February in Texas is intense. It’s hailing, icing and snowing every other hour and our world shuts down. So naturally, we planned to have our engagement party in February. Naturally.
Our engagement party was hosted by our family’s best friends and at one of their homes. The day of our engagement party it started sleeting and with the storm the power went out, of course. Our hosts made homemade Italian for 120 people as well as dozens of pies! We had a pie bar because Paul isn’t a huge cake person. [I highly suggest. I ate 4 pieces.] Our party was at 6 and the power went out at noon. All the hosts and their husbands made the food, drove it to our church, cooked it there, and had to bring it back in the hail, sleet and rain for all the guests. The power finally came back on at 5 and it was such a beautiful evening. We got marquee hire Melbourne [thinking it would be sunny] and with Jesus and heaters it was pulled of perfectly. They thought ahead and the tent was enclosed, so it was never an issue!
We kept laughing because the amount of things that could have caused this party to go wrong are seriously only seen on some food network reality show, and yet no one even knew what had gone on prior that day. Our family friends made this party perfect with all the details from the theme, our hashtag adorning accents and including every photo we had taken together on the tables.
I have always said I want a wedding where people walk away not even remembering the table settings because they were much more focused on the love in the room. God has such a funny sense of humor because I was the one that left my engagement party not even remembering the decorations [thank you, Carmen for capturing it all!] because I was just so in shock of how much our hosts did to make it a perfect evening. I mean if I had been a host, by 12:45 I’d have said, “Okay, people. We are having Club de Pizza Hut on china.”  I kept saying, “I promise we can just go to a BBQ place. I wear sequin dresses everywhere, I swear.” But they still let me have my little engagement party dream and we just think the weather was a sign of good luck from God! 😉

SO SWEET of them to do what they did for you and Paul! What an amazing family and group of friends you surround yourself with! The genuine love that was captured in the photos you shared was beautiful and your hashtag is perfection! I love that you used it in creative ways throughout your decor. Can’t wait to see all the BTS wedding stuff on COF! xx

This reminded me so much of my now hubs and my engagement party! We had it at our family friends beautiful tree farm in South Georgia and girl when I say it rained…I mean like hurricane type rain!!!! So sadly we didn’t get to mingle under the live oaks but the beautiful log cabin was a great “back up”! Enjoy this precious time in your relationship…marriage is so wonderful!!!

Sounds like you had a heck of a day, but it all turned out so beautiful in the end. I love the idea of a pie bar and those napkins are so cute where did you have them made?

    Congratulations on your engagement!
