Keeping in tune with wedding-event attire, I thought today I’d share what to wear to a beach wedding!
I’m headed to one next week. Maybe. I hope so!
Like any good bride, I went to all the appropriate office to get my name changed. I was on the train to Katey Hellman going 90 MPH.
Then the Department of State messed up.
I applied for a name change with my passport with a wedding we are headed to next week [I did this months ago, no last minute worries!]. I hadn’t received my passport and got a little nervous, but knew it would all work out. Last Friday I got a letter in the mail saying they messed up with my photo and I need to redo the process… #Ididntknowthatwaspossible
I called, asked if it would get here in time as long as it was expedited, they confirmed. So last Friday I did the process all over again waiting in line and then Paul called some local representatives to confirm. I would have just changed my name on my plane ticket but the Department of State has all my documentation of citizenship so sadly, I can’t.
Well it’s now Monday at 2:48 [as I write this] and they just called me saying I need to drive to another office in Texas to get it taken care of again so they can overnight it to me.
Y’all, can I just say I’m a tiny bit nervous?! I’m sure it will all work out, I just don’t really trust the process right now, so I’m just hoping it all works out!
^^Doesn’t that sound like a quote on The Bachelor? Maybe that’s a bad sign….
I mean problems to have, of course! My hands are just a little clammy thinking that I may not be able to go with Paul all because they messed my photo. Hopefully it’s just a funny story once we get there! And I think that means I deserve extra guac with my margarita!
I’ll be sure to keep y’all posted! #findkateyspassport
Hashtags make things funnier right?!
Anyways, before I was passport-less, I purchased this little DVF number for beach weddings! So many of my girlfriends are having beach weddings and it can be a hard finding just the right material! You want it silky so you can breath, but not the kind that makes you feel sweaty. You also want a fun print to tie in with the atmosphere. This dress is pricier, but it is lined! And y’all know you want a good lined dress when it comes to something silky in the heat! DVF is the type of dress you have for a lifetime so it’s something I definitely felt comfortable splurging on.
It’s also wrinkle-proof so I didn’t need to worry about packing a travel steamer! I paired it with the cognac heels from yesterday’s post! And if you’re worried about what undergarments to wear I shared that here!
And lastly, if you’re curious on what to wear to a rehearsal dinner, don’t stress at all! Just tie it in with what you’re wearing to the wedding, but go about one step less dressy.
For example, if a wedding is black-tie wear a knee-length feminine dress to the rehearsal dinner. If a wedding is on the beach, you’re safe in another sundress but you could even wear wedges or sandals! I’ll share some favorites below! Still be sure to steer clear of white!
Hopefully I’ll be wearing this in Mexico next week and if not, I might just wear it on the couch while I watch old movies and make my own margaritas! 😉
Have a wonderful Tuesday!
Stunning as always Katey! Seeing you in this dress prompted me to immediately order one. I hope your passport comes back in time 🙂
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe they messed up your picture and you’re now down to the wire! I would be worried too, but it will probably all work out! Wishing you luck!

Hey Katey!
If a wedding is black tie do you think it is ok to wear dress that falls above the knees?
I’m confused on the difference between “cocktail attire” and “black tie”. What do you think?
