Here we are ending the week with a little home decor update! If I’m honest, I truly put home design to the side for a bit for a few reasons! We were a little delayed on our move-in date and then I just felt silly redesigning spaces we weren’t actually living in. I would make mood board after mood board and start all over again. I wanted to do some updates on the blog but got nervous I’d change things after I posted about them. Then, I realized just how ridiculous that is. Y’all don’t care if I change pillow color. However, my wallet will thank me immensely if I just change them on a design board as opposed to repurchasing in real life. haha! So I guess this is somewhat of a budget-friendly habit?!
This layout isn’t perfect by any means and I’m actually not 100% decided on all of it! I just wanted to share the direction we are headed into with the family room so you could get a feel for the space. Our home is open concept, which is great in theory but quite a thorn in your side for decorating. It can be a little frustrating to be concerned about your dining room rug clashing with your tv console, but it’s just made me really think before I purchase.
One thing that got the ball rolling this week was my trip to Kisabeth. I’ve mentioned before that you all introduced me to Kisabeth and I’m purchasing two chairs for our living room through them. I’ve loved the process of picking the chair, the fill and finalizing the fabric. Yesterday we finalized my decisions and I’m very eager to see the end result! I looked at so many swatches and basically wanted pillows made out of all! haha! Ultimately, I went with a citrine damask print. The damask is pictured above and I do love that it’s more traditional so it can be a versatile piece in our home no matter my future decorating selections. I hadn’t ever purchased a custom piece like that with a louder print, and I knew I needed the print to last. Kisabeth says they are heirloom quality so you’ll pass these pieces down to your children. Normally, I might go for something a bit more trendy but I knew I want these chairs in our home forever and I need to think 20 years from now, not just 2 months. And we all know my obsession with citrine! I felt a bit crazy taking an hour to choose a fabric as I’m always a quick shopper. Laurel, Kisabeth’s Creative Director, looked at my final options and she was explaining each fabric to help me decide [she used to work for One Kings Lane and she KNOWS her stuff!]. She said the damask was timeless but a perfectly trendy option for me, because it’s unexpected. She said she thought I’d probably pick an animal print [guilty] so the fact I picked damask was fun for my taste. That made me feel confident that I was getting something classic and something surprising all at the same time.
Once I left Kisabeth, I immediately messaged Little Design Co. as I always do when ordering pillows. I knew I wanted emeralds and greens [cue the citrine] and so these aren’t the final selections these are just a few of her pillows. However, I think I really like the mix of the emerald with the spanish moss! It lends to the citrine and also makes my ginger jar obsession mesh with the patterns. I’ll also be going with a Jenn Thatcher print above my sofa so I’m excited to see what she comes up with. She was asking what style I thought I wanted and I told her to surprise me, so I can’t wait! I seriously love everything she does so there isn’t a piece I’d not want there.
The coffee table is actually this waterfall one but this was the closest I could get on the board for the color pattern as each burl wood piece varies in shade. I’m also not decided on side tables but I liked these from Wisteria as they blend in with any color pattern! Lastly, the tv console isn’t 100% either. I’ve had this bookmarked for a few months as I’ve always loved Bungalow 5 I just haven’t ever pulled the trigger on a piece.
I did want to share our barstools we went with as the kitchen island is adjacent to the family room. I wanted hues of greens and blues in our space and so I love these from Ballard’s! I’ll be honest, Ballard’s is one of the only major furniture retailer I haven’t ever had an issue ordering with. I snapchatted a few months ago about companies that have great delivery reputations and you all said your favorites were Ballard Designs, West Elm and Cb2.
I’m sure once I work with Little Design Co. and Jenn Thatcher they may have some color changes to make in the layout as this is their expertise! But I had fun pulling all of this together and getting suggestions from my mom of how to incorporate these colors throughout the house.

Thank you so much for reading this home decor update before our big move! I was so nervous to post this because it feels like this huge reveal even though it isn’t. I never shared my decor/design process with our last home so I’m not sure WHY exactly I’m so stinkin’ nervous but I hope you all love it!
P.S. I get a lot of questions on how I design boards! I do everything in Adobe programs! I think there are apps in which you can do this [people generally ask what app I use] but I am not aware of any.
I cannot wait to see how your new home comes together! You are a big inspiration in my home décor, wedding planning and wardrobe choices. So excited for your new chapter in a new home. What Adobe program do you use for these boards? Illustrator? I want to try my hand at it as we are redecorating our home after our wedding in December!
Hi Emily!
I use elements! Thank you so much!

I loooove the greens. So pretty and nice that the chairs will last so long!!
I like those layered rugs and now you’ve got my wheels turning for the cowhide in my parlor! I love making room layouts, too, and just wanted to share a few different (free) programs and apps I use when doing so: https://www.dashofjazz.com/2017/06/06/how-to-make-mood-board-any-room/
Love this mood board! I like how the design is a mix of classic and modern. 🙂 Enjoy your beautiful new home!
Love your style!! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together for you! I actually have a sea grass rug with that same zebra print cowhide on top of it in my living room and it’s my favorite thing in the room!
The Dayna barstools in mineral were the first home purchase I made and I couldn’t be happier with them! I was lucky enough to find them at the outlet in Atlanta for half the price. I originally wanted warm gray, but I’m glad I went for the pop of blue/green instead. You’ll love them! I can’t wait to see the house.

Everything looks so great! I absolutely l-o-v-e the fabric that you chose, it is traditional yet still fun. I also think that it could go with a variety of styles (if you ever did want to switch things up down the road). I can’t wait to see the final result along with the rest of your new home.
Good luck with the rest of the decorating process!
It looks amazing! Your fabulous style shines through in your home decor, too!

I LOVE the emerald pillows. It’s such a glam yet down-to-earth color. I’ve been struggling to make my decor of mostly whites, greys, and golds feel more homey and grounded – I may have to get some emerald accents!!
Cannot wait for more progress updates! This will be fun to watch every step of the way.
