The past few weeks, I’ve really started to take inventory of Maxi’s toys and sift through what we need to store away for future children and what we can donate. Like all well-meaning parents, we promise up and down to not buy her too much throughout the year. But with generous grandparents and the all-too-often “Oh what a cute book!” moment, things can pile up.
With that being said, stuff and storage have been on my mind a lot- especially as we are about to go through the holiday season. I started to take that same mindset for my items- and while my wardrobe is a *huge* {and albeit necessary} part of my job, I decided to list out three things I would require for each season.
If I had to sort through and part with or donate most of my fall wardrobe, what are the three things I would hold on to?
A Suede Moto Jacket
If your thought is “Not the BLANKNYC Suede Moto Jacket Again?!” I’m sure you aren’t alone. But there is a reason I own three of these jackets, always share them, and refuse to part with them. I truly think they are my most worn items from Nordstrom and THAT is saying a lot- right?! ha. I lived in these before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and now with a toddler. You can throw them over v-necks, cotton dresses, or sequined numbers. It’s a goof-proof styling dream because I have yet to find a thing you CAN’T wear with these. Here are a few examples.
Not pregnant. Not pregnant. Pregnant. Nursing. Not pregnant.
I mean…how many pieces do you carry through all those stages?! This jacket has a few styles, but the one I’m wearing in this blog post is my most recent one. This is the BLANKNYC No Limit Suede Moto Jacket in Bank Roll. You can also browse other styles featured in the above photos here. From dresses to graphic tees, I don’t think there is a way I wouldn’t style this jacket. It’s the perfect amount of warmth for fall, which makes it my top pieces I wear each pumpkin spice season. 😉
A Camel Scarf
Another thing I did while taking inventory of my closet, was downsize on scarves. I kept a few printed ones I loved and then stuck to tan and camel hues. I had a ton of gray and black scarves but I couldn’t remember the last time I wore them. My sister happily took them off my hands, and I was thrilled to have 5 scarves I know I’ll truly wear. I took all the scarves I had and looked at them against my coats and my sweaters. I compared warm vs. cool tones and what would look best {camel vs. gray} and found a camel scarf was my go-to! I also looked back through old iPhone photos and saw I wore far more camel sweaters and scarves than anything else. When you are sorting through winter wear, go through old Facebook photos or Instagram pics! You’ll see the colors you like best against your skin and that makes paring down a breeze.
The Halogen Cashmere Scarf is one I could never part with. You could wear it as a wrap on a plane or as a traditional blanket scarf. I love the look of the cashmere against my suede moto jacket, too! However, for a more affordable option, try this one.
Over-The-Knee Suede Boots
The two pairs of tall boots I wear are by Stuart Weitzman. I got this pair of black suede boots about four years ago and then got the brown pair I’m wearing during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale last year. They are my absolute favorites and I don’t really get tempted by other pairs because these are so comfortable. I love over-the-knee suede boots because you can pair them with denim, leggings, or dresses so you don’t need as many pairs in your closet! Marc Fisher makes a fabulous pair similar to the ones I’m wearing.
So take some inventory of your closet this week and pick 3 things you wear each season on repeat! I’d love to hear your picks!
Ah, three essentials for sure, I can totally see why you wear them every fall! I love a good suede jacket too! 🙂

So cute Katey! I have two pairs of OTK boots but rarely wear them- I need to change that!
