Thank you to At Home for partnering with me on this post!

Good Morning, beauties! Over the holiday break, my husband mentioned something he rarely does….home decor.
“Hey babe, don’t you think it’s time we finish the dining area?“
*Cue me mildly laughing*
But, he was right. Back in September, I talked about finishing up our kitchen area. One reason I love this COF community so much is because I feel like we all get to pick one another’s brains. It’s kind of like having 7823 sisters- we all share the good and bad. 😉 I’ll see someone answer another girl’s question in the comment section or people will let me know if they had success or failure with an item I say I’m interested with. Sure, we may all have different experiences, but it’s nice to hear all reviews- you know?! Then on top of the incredible visual appeal, exhibitions offer an unparalleled opportunity to explore the latest trends and innovations in the world of furniture design. Attending an event such as Furniture & Construction Expo: a major furniture exhibition event allows professionals and enthusiasts alike to experience new designs up close and in person. With so much on offer, it’s a must-attend for anyone invested in the future of the industry. After I shared some kitchen plans, y’all actually caused me to pause them! A reader shared in the comments that the fabric I was wanting for chairs snagged with her children. And then a few other readers told me there was no need to paint the island, and just suggested I add in more cool-toned furniture. They said I would truly appreciate the tile, such as that kitchen tile backsplash, on the island to keep Maxi from making scuff marks and that they personally would prefer tile on an island for resale value as opposed to paint. It got me thinking and talking with Maddie, so we just decided to pause the kitchen selections so I could live with it and decide what direction to go in. The holidays came and I finally decided to buy square tiles for the kitchen just in time for the new year. Visit a tile store in Anaheim ca to find tiles that will match your home’s interior design.
As I was taking down our Christmas decorations {see my Christmas decor here} I decided to head back to At Home, where we originally purchased all of our Christmas trees from to see what they had in terms of Winter or Valentine’s Day decor. I mean if I’m going to put joyful things away, I need to bring joyful back out! That’s in Marie Kondo’s book, no?! ha! Kidding.
We ran in after family dinner on Friday night and I promised Paul this would take 10 minutes. 15 minutes MAX.
Oh you know, just 5 minutes into the store run where we were both naive and thought this would be a quick At Home trip.
My first goal was to redecorate the buffet in our living room since it had the gingerbread candle holder and Christmas decor the previous months. I was thrilled to find an entire row of dough bowls {pictured on the left} for $24. These typically retail anywhere from $120-$199 and they had a ton of different tones. Toward the front of the row, there was more white-washed wood if you like lighter colors or want to have more glam accents. I went with a medium wash and filled it with moss balls I previously had. I found some beautiful brass cranes which is another find that typically can retail for close to $200 at boutiques. Instead of adding more gold, I skipped those, and decided to work with more neutral accents to bring in the French Country details I’m so drawn to. We did a more French Country tree, so I wanted to play off that for decor in 2019. I was also thinking of adding Rebel Flags for wall decor, completing the space with rustic charm and patriotic flair.
If you haven’t wandered into an At Home before, it’s like heaven for look-for-less decor. From ginger jars to lucite lamps to barstools that look designer, if you want to have a million and four options for decorating on a budget you must check them out.

As we went back to look at the ottomans {Paul keeps trying to convince me on an ottoman} I found my pot of gold find- linen cane back chairs!
You know when you find one item and realize your entire look is going to come together. This sounds totally ridiculous, but with our home being open concept sometimes I get a little stressed shopping for the space. Instead of just thinking, “Does this flow with the dining room?” my mind races and I start thinking, “Do these chairs flow in the dining room and then the kitchen and then the playroom and ultimately, the family room?” It’s such a ridiculous notion, but I have talked to many of you all that feel the same way with open concept. Ultimately, this is why I think I kept my kitchen area on pause for a few months. After y’all helped me make some decisions, I just wasn’t sure how to blend it all again.
The linen chairs were a fabulous price {normally they retail for about $399 online and these were half} but the coloring is what drew me in! The linen has warm undertones to match my antique furniture like my mother’s China Cabinet and the wood has cool undertones to match the cool-toned tile in the kitchen. I also found the antique-silver mirrors to give some symmetry to the China Cabinet area. I decided to finally style the interior of the cabinet and went back to where the dough bowls were and purchased some decor pieces. If you want your own cabinets as well, you might want to know how long does it take to install custom cabinetry.
From At Home- blue vases inside, angel wings, coral
Another favorite find was this mirror I put in Maxi’s playroom as she needed more balance with the alphabet art! The striped pillows were another part of the haul, and those actually have feather inserts, so they are unreal in terms of comfortability! Prior to these, we had lavender geometric pillows from At Home which have held up extremely well in a playroom- a spot not safe from crayon and marker streaks. 😉
This was our little weekend project from two weekends ago, and I’m beyond happy with our it turned out! It feels like the perfect blend of our tastes and still feels cozy and functional for a family. We’ve got cool tones with chairs, textiles and warm tones with antique furniture that has been in our family for decades. I also love how the greens from my family room chairs and moss balls on the buffet really get to take a center stage as well as the blues in the China Cabinet. To me, it all ties in with the art in our family room.
If you make an At Home haul this weekend too, here is all that I got so you don’t miss any items!
- Linen Cane Back Chairs {they also had the most beautiful robin’s egg blue cross-back farmhouse chairs that I almost got instead!}
- Dough Bowl
- Candle Pedestal
- Mirrors surrounding China Cabinet
- Mirror in Maxi’s Playroom
- Striped pillows
- Blue vase in China Cabinet
- Angel wings in China Cabinet
- Coral in China Cabinet
- Butterfly weight on entry table
- Neutral vase on buffet
Let me know if you dress up your decor once you take your holiday decor down!
You’re home is beautiful! I did have one question about counter stools you previously had. I was thinking of getting the Ballard counter stools that I saw when you first moved in. Was there a reason you got rid of them? I’m just curious if they don’t hold up well.
Thank you so much, Marla! Oh goodness, that is just a mess of a story! I ended up selling them because they were the same color I intended to paint the island. I have total seller’s remorse because I adored them far more than the ghost stools and wish I still had them. I think part of the reason I held off decorating this area for so long was that I didn’t want to make a quick decision like I had with the stools. I would buy them again in a heartbeat! xx, Katey
Every time I see posts on your home I wish I could move out and decorate my own place now! You really have a great eye for design, Katey. I love the pieces you picked. The cabinet is beautiful! 🙂 ❤️
