What a weekend! I hope you all are excited for a fresh week and feeling rested from the past few days. On Saturday, Paul told me we were going to a work dinner and I walked in to find he had scheduled a pre-birthday dinner {my birthday is this Sunday} with one of my best friends and her husband! Sunday, we celebrated one of my friends with a baby shower and last night my girlfriend, Sarah, had an Oscars party. She told us to all dress up and we contemplated wearing our wedding dresses- ha. But mine was so huge, I’m glad we didn’t. 😉 I don’t know if I could have sat to drive in it! haha.
If you are wondering what the spring trends are, today’s post is for you. This will be a little different than your typical spring trend blog post because instead of concrete trends these are moods. Intrigued?! I was, too!
On Valentine’s Day, I got to attend a fabulous brunch with some girlfriends at Neiman Marcus Fort Worth. They presented the 5 “spring moods” for their Spring Trend Report. While getting ready in the morning, instead of questioning, “What trend do I incorporate today?” it’s easier to think, “How do I feel today?” These moods embody a specific girl with certain activities {work/hanging out outside/date night} so it’s really easy to incorporate these with what you already own in your closet. I’ll break down the 5 moods which embody Ken Downing’s direction for the seasonal trends this spring.
Here are my notes from the brunch:
Free Spirit
This mood features eclectic pieces appearing to have been collected all over the world. Textures and prints seem hand-made or with hand-woven details. You want to think crochet, embroidery, velvets, paisleys- anything that speaks to the modern version of hippie chic. For color look to marigolds and rich spice tones! So often we think of the free spirit style as a white tunic blouse, cut-off denim shorts, and beach waves. This spring, don’t be afraid of color or texture with this trend.
Colorful Personality
Piggybacking off the free spirit mood, don’t ignore color! Apricot is the new pink! Pantone calls it “living coral,” which can cover all shades from lilac to rich purple, marigold to yellow. This spring, color speaks volumes.
Urban Sophisticate
The pantsuit is queen. Tailoring evokes a strong feminine personality, so look to utilitarian details and architectural pleats or matching sets. It’s the material girl trend where uptown meets downtown.
Go Getter
If you loved Lisa Frank, this is your spring mood! The go getter is a nod to the 90s. Is she going to the beach? Riding roller blades along the boardwalk? Touches of athletic wear, such as scuba material or bodysuits are what give this spring mood away. If you feel daring, try biker shorts with this trend!
Hopeless Romantic
This mood screams, “Carrie Bradshaw” to me. It’s all about overt romanticism with a twist. Start with a base of feminine prints and fabrics, such as floral, silk, lace and tulle. Then, add in a statement accessory- those can be feminine pearls OR a contrast of a combat boot shakes things up. Nothing loves a ruffle more than another ruffle. Don’t be afraid of mixing a slip dress with a pink moto jacket!
After the presentation, they asked us to try-on a look we felt best embodied our spring mood! I went a little urban sophisticate meets hopeless romantic. I thought I would go full-on hopeless romantic, but once I saw this pink pantsuit situation, I couldn’t steer clear. The hopeless romantic accessories {heart earrings and ruffled shoes} felt like a soft touch to such a statement piece. I actually ended up purchasing this pantsuit as I needed an updated work wear look and will wear it to everything from business meetings to church and plenty of dinners in between!
Love the hopeless romantic! That is so me
Oh my gosh love this!! What fun trends for spring, and I love the idea of moods. 🙂
