What Do Sheet Masks Do?

You can hardly checkout at Sephora without passing the adult version of a Kinder Egg: sheet masks. Sheet masks are nothing new, but they have gained wild popularity in the states over the past few years! Aside from the brightly colored packaging and giftable charm, sheet masks have garnered many fans for solid reasons.

First off, sheet masks lock in your product by creating a barrier on your skin. You don’t necessarily have to worry about your product being exposed to elements- did you know products like Vitamin C serum slowly deteriorate once exposed to oxygen?! You also know your serums won’t evaporate for a time being while the mask is on. Plus, they can be affordable! If you can’t splurge in your budget on fancy serums and masks- sheet masks are your BFF. Use one a week in a simple beauty routine and you’ll still see results! Some sheet masks can run a few dollars, so it’s a far more gentle habit on the wallet. {Some are luxury brands and cost more.} Sheet masks also allow you to get quite customized in your beauty routine, for a far better price than owning 6 or 7 different serums. Say you want to try a brightening one on Monday and then a clarifying one on Friday- you can do that without splurging on two separate full-sized masks!

So let’s break down the beauty treatment!

What do sheet masks do?

Sheet masks infuse active serums into your skin’s barrier by sealing the products to your skin. It’s essentially a super-charged serum treatment! These masks are great because they can easily be used in the morning or before events to hydrate and plump your skin.

How do I use them?

You can use a sheet mask in the morning, afternoon or evening! I like to use them on the weekends before a date night or event. You cleanse your skin, then tone {you can skip toning if you prefer}, apply your mask, leave on for 10-20 minutes, and you’re finished! I love to use my facial roller over my mask to make sure I’m really activating the ingredients into my skin. There’s always some serum leftover in the packet, so I’ll put that on my hands as a treatment, too! You can also leave your sheet masks in your fridge so you get a cooling effect to help with inflammation before you get ready.

Which one am I currently using?

I’m currently using the TULA Insta Bright Energizing & Brightening Sheet Mask! It was limited edition, sold out and they JUST restocked- but FYI it won’t be restocked after it sells out now. It’s suitable for all skin types and you get 4 masks for $26. My discount code does work for 20% off {code is “KATEY”}, so each mask ends up being roughly $5. Use one a week and you’ve got a month of beauty treatments! Here’s what is in the mask:

  • probiotics + birch water lock in moisture
  • papaya brightens
  • hyaluronic acid plumps + hydrates

I really enjoy this sheet mask because once I use it, my skin looks really plump—just like I’ve had a Hydrafacial Arlington VA! But I’d love to know, which sheet masks do YOU love?! How often do you use them?!

P.S. Sheet masks make the CUTEST gifts for your girlfriends!

Happy masking!

  1. I find it so strange that some people still don’t know what sheet masks are! I suppose it’s because I live in Asia, so sheet masks have always been the norm, even when I was a kid watching my Mum use them. They’re so convenient, I love them! 🙂
