Today is a day I’ve been prepping for for a few months and I’m quite ecstatic about it. Does anyone remember back in 2015 when I had a borderline unhealthy obsession with these necklaces? Embarrassing selfie for evidence. There is a boutique in Fort Worth called Lawrence’s and they have everything from candles to luxury gifts. They carry a lot of jewelry lines, including Mad Jewels.
I kept buying these turquoise bibs and had no clue who the designer was. I’d take my shameless selfie and post to Instagram. People would comment and tag Mad Jewels saying I was wearing her pieces. Then our friendship started.
I continued to purchase more of the necklaces {as did my Meme in Oklahoma- we like our big jewels!} and so over the years the designer, Madison, and I would collaborate. We’d do a few giveaways here and there and run into each other around Fort Worth. We are both moms to daughters and would chat about things like babysitters and kid-friendly restaurants.
I actually went to her office this past summer to pick up earrings for a wedding. This was when we were living at my parents and building and half my jewelry was packed away, so I knew she’d have what I needed. She tossed around the idea of us doing a line together and I was sold. Over lunches at Neiman’s and lots of late night texts, we created the COF x MJ Collection. Madison brought her designer eye and I brought y’all’s requests to the table. I’m thrilled to have curated a collection that is focused on functionality and approachability in price. Everything in this collection is between $30 and $80 and we chose items that are going to be extremely lightweight {minus the Celine necklace, which is the normal weight of a statement necklace-we HAD to have a statement!} for the busy girl in mind.
Mad Jewels is a little sassy mixed with girly and this collection was really inspired by running around in the summer. I kept thinking of a busy girl, wearing cut-off shorts, major sandals and a white blouse. She’s running late for something and has a messy ponytail, so she throws on jewelry that isn’t going to be fussy but will make her look. There’s lots of lariats, statement earrings and and hoops to fit what I envisioned.
I have another fun announcement with this collection, but we’ll save part 2 for a rainy day! I wanted to take today to introduce you to this line and share the designs up close. There are specific quantities to each piece, so I’ll keep you posted on things before they sell out!
The number one question readers send in regards to earrings is, “Are they heavy?” Same girl, same. I can’t stand heavy earrings and will take them off mid wedding with NO shame. That’s what my clutches are for- to hold the earrings! Madison showed me her hoop design and I was thrilled to see that these will not hurt even the most sensitive of ears. She incorporated the pearl for spring and summer.
I told Madison I really wanted to incorporate something with the “eye of protection.” I know that sounds a little silly, but there is a story behind it. NYC always holds a special place in my heart as my parents would take my sister and I for spring break growing up. I was obsessed with the energy of the city as a young teen, but my babysitter budget didn’t get me very far shopping there. My mom would always find eye of protection pieces of jewelry for my sister and I to wear with her. She would joke we needed them so we didn’t get lost from our parents in NYC. We’d get them from little shops we found each and every trip and I’d never take them off until our next trip. It is what reminds me most of those moments with my family. I did a lariat because Mad Jewels has such light lariats that I love, and knew my sister would wear.
Madison is always wearing the coolest cross earrings! I think it’s a beautiful take from a traditional cross necklace. She was wearing a version of these during our lunch and I said, “We HAVE to do those!” These are also really light and the shorter hoop makes them easy to layer other necklaces with.
This is one of the original pieces I have always adored with Mad Jewels. I have had pink and turquoise but asked that we do a white turquoise in case you are a more neutral girl. I get the MOST compliments on these!
So we had to throw in some very “Katey” earrings here! These are an ombre pink tassel that “dust” your shoulder and are a must-have for date nights and girls’ nights. If you don’t want to put a ton of effort in a look, I like that you can pair these with a simple v-neck tee, denim and you’re good to go!
With these, think sumer vacation! They are definitely a little more sassy and I think they are so cute styled with a top knot. Madison brought these to the table and I knew they’d be a perfect fit with all the pink.
Madison and I both wanted to incorporate butterflies in this collection and for different reasons. My girlfriend, Kristin, whom I started COF with, always had butterfly art in her apartments in college. I’d head to UT and spend the weekend with her and I just remember always seeing it in her room. She has an insanely busy job and is always traveling for work, so with me being a mom and living an hour away- we don’t get to see each other as often as I wish. When I think of her, I always think of our fun weekends in college {although we’ve been friends since we were 11 years old, so I probably should think of our awkward middle school phase or something!} Kristin and I both started this blog in college for fun and when I was able to take it full time and she wanted to pursue her corporate job full time, she was more than supportive. I never shared this story here, but we actually went to a Starbucks to see if we wanted to keep blogging since we were both working full time. I’m the overly sensitive one and she only cries when one of our friends gives birth. ha! Her job had picked up and I became more and more in love with this blog after we had graduated. I’m over here crying in a Starbucks by our apartments in Dallas not wanting to do the blog without her. She said she wanted to do her job and I should do this and take over her posts for her. I told her I had such guilt continuing COF because we both did this together and I didn’t want her to just take the reigns as she stopped. I told her I should just make a different blog because I didn’t want to take anything from her. She literally yelled at me at Starbucks {she is the tough love friend we ALL need} and told me if I didn’t take COF and grow it as much as I could she would never let me live it down because she knew I could do this. Four {almost 5!} years later, she is one of my biggest supporters outside of family. She’s always saying, “You were meant to do this and I’m so proud of you.” So the butterfly is a nod to her and the encouragement she always gives me.
Editor’s Note: This is the most delicate piece in the collection as it is meant to be a dainty piece of jewelry! Take extra care.
The Butterfly Kisses delicate piece is something Kristin would wear with a tank to dinner and Madame Butterfly is something she’d wear traveling or to a concert in the summer! The Madame Butterfly is very bohemian and the gold butterfly is the feminine touch! As a little honor to Kristin, 15% of the proceeds of this necklace will go to her favorite charity, Autism Speaks. I want to note THIS is a pre-order item and will ship beginning of April. We want as much in stock as possible and to try to not sell out with this so we can really benefit Autism Speaks.
The Queen Bee necklace is for your sassiest friend. I love to mix metals and so the gunmetal with pink bee is part of my one party girly + one party edgy styling rule.
Okay, I teased this bracelet last week and we ALMOST sold out! Seriously, so I wouldn’t wait to order this one. To me there is nothing better than mixing a sweet handmade bracelet like this with your fine jewelry. This is the perfect baby shower or “I’m so happy you’re pregnant!” gift!
I couldn’t fully curate this collection without summer bracelets! These are rondelle beads with a pave bar and evil eye charm. This set comes with 2 bracelets.
I also just want to take a moment to say thank you to Madison for allowing me to curate this with her. She’s the designer behind all of this and gave me so much freedom and flexibility in my design wishes in this. She’s a mom of two, a successful designer [she’s sold everywhere from luxe boutiques to MAJOR retailers which I’ll share more on later *hint* *hint*], so supportive of other women and each time you’re with her you’re like, “Okay she is the ultimate girl crush!“
As always, a huge thank YOU to reading my blog because without y’all COF isn’t anything. Thank you to always supporting me and the brands I believe in!

Congrats! I LOVE those Polly earrings – cannot wait to get mine in the mail! Do you know if they’re nickel-free? I have an allergy to anything nickel in earrings, so crossing my fingers that they don’t have that in them!
Hi Alyssa! I just checked with Madison! She said they are copper base metal, so she thinks nickel is in them. But she recommended the Alchemy Jewelry Sealer on her website. She said it keeps ears from itching if you do have an allergy {or on other items in your jewelry box as well!} She also said it’s a great way to make more fun, costume items like this last a long time! xo
Hi Elizabeth! I’m going to ask Madison if we can! We did same # of items for each piece to get a gauge on if we would need a restock- and I think this is a must! xo
Congratulations on such an amazing collab Katey! I bought the Malibu earrings and just got them in the mail yesterday and they are SO FUN! Can’t wait to wear them. Great quality and I love the ombre pink. Congrats again
Congratulations on the collaboration, Katey! 🙂 You and Mad Jewels are a perfect fit, and everything looks so delicately and beautifully designed! ❤️
