Do you read physical books? Do you podcast? Do you use audible?! How do you get in your “escape” time?!
Dear friends, I was very against podcasts. I mean I loved Serial like the rest of them, but most podcasts weren’t my thing. I also don’t love “morning radio” chat so maybe I was associating it with that.
Well, then I got hooked on Dr. Death last week. It was fascinating and terrifying all at the same time! This Doctor was based out of Dallas and so I got sucked in in part to that. I finished it in a week talked to anyone that would listen about it. My husband was quite over it. Then Serial Season 3 came back- talk about a BLESSING. In the wise words of Sarah Jessica Parker, “I have been waiting and hoping not in vain. Oh to be reunited with Sarah Koenig’s voice and her storytelling. Hallelujah!“
So now that I’ve decided to be pro-Podcast, here is a list I’m browsing.
I also tried audible a few weeks ago. I downloaded “Girl, Wash Your Face” and it just wasn’t really for me. Not a bad thing, just not my thing. So are there any other books you like on audible?! I’ve been trying to listen to either audiobooks or podcasts in the morning while I get ready as opposed to scrolling Insta Stories. I would get *so* much more done while listening to podcasts, which was quite a surprise to me! Just goes to show social media can be such a ridiculous distraction at times.
For my next read, I’m ordering this book on sleep. Since I was in high school, I’ve always struggled to get enough sleep. I’ve just got that typical, “Well I could get so much more done if I went to sleep at midnight.“
It’s something I really struggle having discipline with, and it can be frustrating when I typically categorize myself as a disciplined person. So now I feel the next step is to read a book that scares me on sleep.
The Amazon reviews aren’t that stellar, but, I had a girl on Insta Stories tell me this book changed her life so much and now she is very strict on her bedtime. I need something to make me strict, so I feel it is worth a shot! Have you tried it? Do you have a book on sleep that you love?! Most books I was looking up focus on insomnia, and I don’t have that. I’ve got #IDidntFinishAProjectSoImDoingItTooLate-disease. ha.
So let’s chat podcasts, audible, and sleep books!
I listen to Dave Ramsey all the time. I’m fortunate enough to be debt free and in baby step 4 (since I have no kids or a home) but I still love those debt free screams and his millionaire theme hours!
I like Up & Vanished as well and of course serial.
Personally I love to read as well but I go the cheap route (thanks Dave!) and rent from the library. I find a lot of time audiobook voices just bug me.
Have you listened to the up and vanished podcast? I couldn’t stop listening to season one and would come home from work and basically repeat it all to my husband. ? we live just outside of Atlanta and I’m really wanting to drive down to that town one weekend after listening to it.
Love podcasts! and reading, but having the time to sit and read doesn’t come often. My favorite podcasts right now are My Favorite Murder, Dr. Death, Pod Save America, and Armchair Expert. Also, love this bag so much but it’s sold out so I might have shed a tear.
Oh girl I could talk books and podcasts for days. Since you liked Dr. Death, I’m going to keep my podcasts recommendations in the true crime genre.
Fave true crime podcasts:
1. Serial (#duh. Sarah Koenig’s voice is like velvet, I want her to narrate my brain.)
2. Accused (Season 1 is better than Season 2 in my opinion, but both are great.)
3. In The Dark (Both seasons are great. Madeleine Baran also has a fantastic podcast voice.)
4. Dirty John (in the same vein as Dr. Death, but not nearly as horrific.)
5. Up and Vanished (Season 1 is pretty long, but so good. Season 2 just came out, still not sure how I feel about it.)
6. Atlanta Monster (from the creator of Up and Vanished)
7.Cover Up (investigates the Chappaquiddick incident from 1969)
8. Slow Burn (Season 1 is about Watergate, Season 2 is about Clinton/Lewinsky)
9. S-Town (from the producers of Serial. Lots of cussing, but an interesting story.)
Whew!
I also like Up First by NPR and The Daily by the New York Times for daily news updates.
There are also several non-true crime podcasts I love! But start with the above if you want to find something that will hook you.

Gorgeous pictures, Katey! There’s just something so romantic about libraries and bookstores. 🙂

I’ve never tried Audible because I enjoy the physical act of reading, especially when travelling! However I am definitely a big podcast fan in my daily routine. My favorites are How I Built This and WSJ Secrets of Wealthy Women. Last fall I listened to the short podcast series S-Town and really got hooked!
PS – do you find that Lilly shirt is see through? I love all things Lilly but i’m afraid it might be too sheer for my corporate job!
Hi Lisa! You definitely have to wear a tank under the linen. 🙁 May not work best for work! Xx, Katey
Would love to hear any of your recommended devotionals!
Also where is your purse from?
Hi girl! It is listed under “Shop The Post@ but unfortunately it sold out. 🙁
Podcasts currently in my library: Small Doses with Amanda Seales, Insecuritea, The Read, Side Hustle Pro, Oprah’s Master Class, The Influencer Podcast, Bon Appetit Foodcast, Fohr Casts, and How I Built This. I haven’t gotten into Audiobooks yet but my current book club physical read is Children of Blood and Bone.
I’m so fascinated by sleep too, as someone who is a chronic light sleeper! I do PR for a research university/hospital and one of our PhD researchers specializes in sleep and it’s effect on your brain and health. The one fact that struck me from their research is that those who got one extra hour of sleep each night for one year ranked their happiness on par with those who received a $70,000 bonus at work. So crazy!!
I have a lot of reccomendations!
1. Going Scared with Jessica Honnegar
2. The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey
3. For the Love Podcast with Jen Hatmaker
4. The Girl Gang podcast has a lot of great interviews with girls from the bachelor, reality tv,etc…
I love girl talk podcasts so if those aren’t your favorite then you might not be a fan of the ones I listed but definitely look them up and read some of the descriptions!!
Love these, girl! Will definitely try! Thank you!! Xx, Katey
I haven’t listened to all of Dr. Death BUT my dad almost had him do his surgery back in 2011 or 2012! HOW CRAZY. But he was highly recommended at the time. I listen to a ton of dark/true crime podcasts and while I love them I need to be on the lookout for some inspiring/uplifting ones. Maybe one to help with the Sunday scaries!
Oh Maureen! Praise God he didn’t do the surgery! So scary how recommended he was!!
Missing Richard Simmons was the podcast that got me hooked on podcasts- DEFINITELY listen if you haven’t yet!! S-Town is another good one too (some mature themes in that, but it’s good). For weekly podcasts, I love Relatable with Allie Stuckey (political + faith podcast)!
I haven’t read any good books lately! I feel like all the ones I’ve read recently have been “eh”

Loving the pictures and the bag, wish it wasn’t sold out!! Libraries are the best way to escape.

Favorite podcasts so far: Risen Motherhood (I have a feeling you would love this one!), The Happy Hour w/ Jamie Ivey, Goal Digger with Jenna Kutcher, For the Love, and Rise with Rachel Hollis, and I feel like there are many more this is just what I have found so far that I have found helpful and fun to listen to! 🙂
Oh my goodness, if you like podcasts you neeeeeed to listen to Small Town Murder. There are two comedians that talk about these crazy stories (they never make fun of the victims only the murders and small characters).
Also, I literally love these photos! You look so cute and that bag is everythinggggggg.
