Recently, I’ve gotten a lot of questions about workwear. Although I don’t work in a traditional office, I did for a few years and I remember the Sunday evening agony. Knowing I had to trade in my yoga pants for black pants wasn’t thrilling to say the least. πŸ˜‰

However, when done right, work wear can make you feel even more chic than weekend wear. I worked in public relations so I was in a creative industry. If I showed up to a meeting in a sequin top I wasn’t chastised. Instead my boss just asked where I got the top from and if they had any left! So while this look may fit you creatives, I know if you work in another department it probably wouldn’t. So let’s break it down how you can ease these pieces into your wardrobe.

The Skirt:

A well-fitted pencil skirt is your bff. It slims, elongates and allows you to throw any top on and still feel pulled together for your 9 a.m. meeting. This one is DVF, here is is in the non-lace version! The lace version isn’t available online yet, but I found a similar for a steal. But if you’re investing in your wardrobe I can’t say enough about this skirt. It’s like the girl going through recruitment that you have to have as your little. She’s pretty perfect. I went down a size in it and it’s super slimming. However, if you want a lace number in your wardrobe this one is a great buy!

The Heels:

If you’re sick of the traditional pump, start to invest in one with a pointed toe. It adds a bit of edge to your workwear and fits any work dress code. If you can add a little bit of lace up [the lace up can be scrunched together as seen online so it isn’t as high on the leg], this is a fun heel to do it with. It comes in a variety of shades to add some depth if you work in a more versatile field. If you can’t work with the lace up pump, these are a must have! A D’Orsay pump is always flattering and work on the weekends too! πŸ™‚

The Top:

A sequin top is fun if you’re a stylist or work in advertising [this sequin tee with a peter pan collar is a bit dressier for the office] but the silhouette works in any office! A blouse with a longer sleeve allows you to not wear a blazer every day, but have something structured and more conservative. I love this one from Kate Spade, but this one from Topshop is so chic, too!

This outfit fits a date night much better than a conference room, but I hope this post gives you some inspiration on adding a few edgy pieces into your work wardrobe and crossing over pieces as well! And if you love sequins as much as me, grab this tank top to throw a blazer over it and pair it with boyfriend jeans for your Friday night “Thank Jesus work is over” cup of queso! πŸ˜‰

I work in a corporate office and a pencil skirt and pointed heels are my go-to’s . Instantly polished and chic. It doesn’t matter if I throw on a tee or nice button down, it’s always chic!
