Yesterday as I was sitting down to write my blog post I realized, “I never shared my bridal portraits!” It’s almost been a year and I’m not sure how this slipped through the cracks! haha. I’ve gotten a few requests, so I thought I would share a few of my favorites! I’ve always wondered why people get married in the summer in Texas. It’s so hot, how do they manage?! And then I realized they are so stinkin’ brilliant. Geniuses. Absolute geniuses. They spend their wedding inside and take bridal portraits in the spring, when it’s cooler. When you get married in the fall, you take your bridals when it is 104 degrees outside, and you aren’t sure if you’re sweating, your hair spray is running, or that’s just your spray tan. But I will say, wearing something light and airy, like these lace wedding dresses, definitely helps! Thankfully, I had my dad to refuel me with lots of Diet Coke! 😉
It’s so hard to believe that it’s almost been a year [it goes by so fast!], but at the same time it’s been the best year of my life. I’ll share more ways about how we have both changed since marriage come our anniversary, but it really is true. You don’t change people, but you can bring out the best qualities in them. I’m still Katey, a million flaws stuffed inside a short body. I’m overly sensitive, I get emotional quickly, I build walls when I’m hurt and I can be as sassy as the next Southern girl when I’m in the wrong. But Paul has been able to bring out the softest side in me. I forgive so much more quickly, I want to apologize first and I can understand others’ perspectives so much more easily.

Bridal Beauty Must Haves:
-You will be sweating a lot in between the pictures and the hugs, this is the BEST deodorant I’ve ever used and can’t use anything else now! Plus, you don’t smell like deodorant, I think this is what Carrie Underwood probably smells like. Who doesn’t want to smell like her on their wedding day?
-I didn’t want to get a spray tan before my wedding, so I used this in gradual tanner! It’s amazing, but this is even better if you want an instant glow! No streaks whatsoever!
-This is Paul’s favorite perfume I’ve ever worn and I wore it on our wedding day. It’s a little bit more expensive, but he never comments on anything except this perfume!
-This body butter makes your skin glow and I applied it on my arms and legs while I got ready that day.
-This is the skincare set I used 6 months before my wedding [and still do!] to prep and make sure I had no skin issues the day of.

It was very simple! I went with just an all-white fitted mermaid gown and it had no beading or anything! I just wanted simple and then when that ripped and I couldn’t wear it, I decided to go 100% opposite that way I wouldn’t compare! 🙂

I just adore your wedding dress, it’s so stunning! Your bridal portraits are beautiful with the hints of sunlight hitting your blonde hair. My wedding was a little over three years ago and I miss my dress so much. I want an excuse to wear mine again. Do you feel the same way?
Are bridal portraits a Southern thing? What a great idea… wish we did this in MA! I would love to have photos in my wedding dress before the big day, when I was so busy before the ceremony and afterwards just wanted to get to the reception, and I only have a couple of photos in my dress! Maybe I’ll get back into it for a little 2 year anniversary thing 😉

You know what, it might be! I never thought about it because everyone here does it! You take bridal portraits and then there are normally 2 framed ones of them at the reception and then one of the portraits goes to your parents and the other goes to your husband! Normally your husband hangs it in his office at home/work or in your master bedroom. We have such a small house I just left both at my parents and when Paul has a “home office” one day and I don’t look like that anymore bahaha he can have it! lol It’s so fun you should totally do it!!

Hey Katey- I LOVE your blog. Random question- I love how your engagement ring and wedding band stay separated! Do you have something put in place to do that, or is it just how your rings lay next to each other? I love the look and am dying to know how I can do this with my eternity band and engagement ring! I got them made that way! Paul had my engagement ring custom made and the only other way to pair a wedding band with it was to get one that wraps around and I wanted them separate for when I have kids, etc and just wear a band sometimes! So the jeweler made one that sits a bit farther from it and I think it’s the way the stones lay! I’m not 100% sure but you can definitely ask a jeweler and they can lay it that way!

Also for the portraits do you typically do a different location or where you are getting married? Same hair and makeup as the big day too? I think it would be fun to try a different look for the portraits than the day of! 🙂

I love your dress!! So gorgeous!! I went to TCU- but am from Orange County and am back living here- all of my college friends did these for their weddings but it has to be a Southern Thing! A few of bridesmaids were from TCU and last year when I got married they all asked me where my Bridal Portraits were and my friends from here did not understand what they were talking about… also there is no Queso here 🙁 that’s been the hardest part of coming back here haha.
